Bunch-resolved diagnostics for a future electron-storage ring

چکیده

The upgrade of the BESSY II light source in Berlin towards a variable pulse-length storage-ring will lead to complex bunch-filling pattern. This may involve co-existing electron bunches with significant variations their properties. Among many other conditions, it calls for bunch-resolved diagnostics sub-ps time resolution and micrometer spatial resolution. Currently, we are finishing constructing diagnostic platform connected new dipole beamlines visible as well THz measurements. mid-term aim is 24/7 use optical beam development advanced methods specific purposes. Preliminary interferometric data transverse profiles presented discussed. main topic this paper, however, recent streak-camera results along concepts achieve high signal-to-noise ratio, 2D at efficiency.

Electron-bunch lengthening on higher-harmonic oscillations in storage-ring free-electron lasers

The influence of higher-harmonic free-electron laser (FEL) oscillations on an electron beam have been studied by measuring its bunch length at the NIJI-IV storage ring. The bunch length and the lifetime of the electron beam were measured, and were observed to have become longer owing to harmonic lasing, which is in accord with the increase of the FEL gain. It was demonstrated that the saturated...

Laser-Electron Storage Ring

A compact laser-electron storage ring (LESR) is proposed for electron beam cooling or x-ray generation. The LESR uses an intense laser pulse stored in a highnesse resonator to interact repetitively with a circulating electron beam in the energy range from a few MeV to a few hundred MeV. The rapid damping caused by laser-electron interaction counterbalances the intrabeam scattering e ect, thus a...

Single Bunch Longitudinal Measurements of the Cornell Electron- Positron Storage Ring with the Superconducting RF Cavities

As part of the Phase III luminosity upgrade, the Cornell Electron-Positron Storage Ring (CESR) RF system has been upgraded from normal conducting (NRF) to superconducting (SRF) cavaties. The new superconducting cavities change the overall impedance of CESR and thus change the longitudinal bunch distribution. Measurements of the single bunch longitudinal distribution have been made using a strea...

Short Bunch Beam Diagnostics

With the emergence of 4th generation FEL based light sources there is now considerable interest in both producing and characterizing ultra-short (<100 fs) electron bunches. Knowledge of the extremely high peak current in a short bunch is required to diagnose the SASE (self amplified stimulated emission) process. Measuring the femtosecond duration of the pulse is inherently interesting, particul...

Bunch by Bunch Beam Diagnostics Using a Fast Light Shutter

A bunch-by-bunch beam diagnostic system which consists of a high speed light shutter and an optical beam detector has been developed. Since the open/close time of the shutter is comparable to a bunch spacing of 2 ns, it is capable of picking out the light pulses from a particular bunch in a bunch train. The selected pulses can be analyzed with conventional optical beam diagnostic methods in ord...
